First impressions often begin with the face we present to the world; we want to put our best face forward long before we say a word. With age, lips lose volume due to changes in collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, which can alter overall balance and symmetry. Dermal fillers are clinically proven to restore this structure, refining proportions and enhancing definition in a way that looks natural and in balance with the rest of the face.
As we get older, our body’s natural stores of collagen and elastin decline. Collagen is essential to full, plump, healthy-looking skin and elastin keeps skin tight and bouncy. At the same time, our body has a harder time retaining moisture and is producing less hyaluronic acid (HA). HA content starts to decrease as early as 20 years of age and is reduced to roughly half by age 501. We notice these changes in the lips and the rest of the face as loss of volume, elasticity, and general deflation . You might notice your lips getting more narrow or thin, a decline in fullness, and fine lines or wrinkles where lips used to be smooth and supple.
Lip fillers are injectable treatments that restore lost volume and fullness and/or provide specific shape and definition to the lips . Targeted injections fill lips in a way that’s natural and subtle with long-lasting results that naturally metabolize over 6 and 12 months . Dermal fillers contain active HA matrix gel that help provide structure to the lips. This molecule occurs naturally in your body and helps hydrate and plump skin.
Dermal filler treatments can treat more than just lips; at our Guelph and Burlington clinics, fillers are used for a variety of skin concerns, and offer a more vibrant appearance for the face, back of hands, eye hollows, and more.
Lip filler has a rejuvenating effect on the entire face without the need for downtime, invasive treatments, or painful procedures. Here are some of the primary perks:
The key to natural looking, long-lasting results is a skilled injector who understands how important your unique features are. We bring decades of thoughtful expertise to each patient we treat. You can expect:
What kind of lip filler does deRMA Skin Institute in Guelph and Burlington use?
The dermal fillers our expert injectors recommend depend on the size, skin type, and goals for the treated area. We use dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, and BELOTERO BALANCE® to replace lost hyaluronic acid and restore fullness. Some dermal fillers contain active ingredients other than hyaluronic acid and are designed for specific issues. For example, RADIESSE® uses gel microspheres containing calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) to smooth wrinkles by triggering fresh collagen production. The filler we choose is always based on our mission to bring you the best possible outcome; to match the youthful, vibrant you on the inside with the you you see in the mirror.
The best treatment plans are customized to create a plan that meets all your goals: so we may also recommend combination treatment plans that target multiple concerns in one treatment regimen or procedure. One tried and true example is pairing neuromodulators like Botox® with dermal fillers to combine the smoothing, relaxing, and preventative properties of both treatments. We may treat the lips and also address undereye circles, contour the jawline or nose, and other volume-related concerns in one treatment.
Both treatments are injectables, but neuromodulators act to relax the muscles causing wrinkles or folds, and in some cases, to adjust how strongly muscles pull the upper lip. This can have preventative effects; neuromodulators keep lines and folds from forming and deepening by decreasing the repeated movements that cause them. But it also actively smooths existing folds. For example, neuromodulators can help to smooth the series of vertical lines that form on the upper lip, and prevent muscles from creating repeated creases that cause these lines. Using different injectable treatments in intentional, artful combinations is one element of Dr. Sajic’s 5 Dimension Skin Plan™— you can learn more about that here.
